The former champion’s son Campbell has shared an touching tribute through his first public message following his father’s passing.
Messages of condolence been shared from across the boxing community and wider society after the tragic news of the one-time world champion titleholder, who was discovered at his property this past weekend at the young age of mid-forties.
“There are no words to describe how I feel,” shared his son with a set of personal images.
“Everyone always noted I looked like your spitting image – not a more accurate word said. Always idolized you in all way of life.”
He went on: “It’s impossible to describe how much I’m going to miss the laughs we shared and all of the good times, which I will treasure eternally. Just can’t accept we won’t have another. Love you, Dad.”
Local police confirmed that the boxing icon had been discovered on his property located in the Manchester area. Officials stated that there were no unusual circumstances related to the incident.
Much like his dad, Campbell once embarked on a profession in boxing, taking his professional debut in recent years. He later withdrew from the sport not long ago.
The following day, the relatives of the champion released a message expressing that they were “deeply moved” by the overwhelming outpouring of support and condolences sent their way.
“Our loved one was far greater than a world champion. To us, he was simply ‘Richard,’ our son. A devoted parent, elder, and sibling, and a true friend to numerous people,” the statement read.
“He carried a heart as large as his expression, and his generosity, humour, and dedication impacted all those fortunate enough to experience him.
“To the broader world, he will always be remembered as one of the sport’s top figures – a man who dedicated everything inside the fights and showed his heart on his publicly.”
