President Gives Green Light to Deploying National Guard within Windy City, as Federal Judge Prevents Portland Troop Movement.
Over the weekend, the White House confirmed that Donald Trump has moved to deploy the national guard to the Illinois city, while simultaneously a court official prevented his administration from deploying forces to the Oregon city.
Administration Confirms Chicago Deployment
A spokesperson for the administration revealed that Donald Trump had authorized using Illinois national guard members, citing what she called “ongoing violent riots and civil disorder” that city officials have been unable to stop.
In Oregon, federal judge the judicial officer concurred with the state’s assertion that the administration sending federal guard forces to Portland would probably escalate rather than ease protests.
“This judgment supports what Oregonians already know: justice has been served, and reality triumphed,” Oregon’s governor stated subsequent to the legal injunction was approved. “No uprising is occurring in this municipality. National security is not at risk. No flames, no bombs, no loss of life due to social disturbances.”
Illinois Governor Labels Action Unnecessary
Illinois' chief executive, the governor labeled the decision unjustified and “an orchestrated display – not a real attempt to protect public safety.”
Judicial Official Blocks Portland Troop Deployment
The administration has suffered a setback to his plan of deploying forces to municipalities with Democratic mayors he labels as disorderly, subsequent to a federal court halted his government's effort to deploy the national guard to Portland, Oregon.
Trump had declared on late September that he would deploy troops to the city, “authorizing Maximum Strength, if necessary”, disregarding appeals from city authorities and the Oregon's representatives. An alliance of 17 mayors in the area had objected to the troop movement.
