House of worship Assailant Had Been Freed Under Bond After Rape Detainment, Police State
According to police officials, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of rape and was out under conditional release when he carried out a lethal vehicle and stabbing assault on a Manchester synagogue.
One victim and Melvin Cravitz lost their lives in the attack last Thursday, and several individuals remain receiving medical care.
Police believe that Al-Shamie could have been motivated by "extreme Islamist ideology" and announced that additional suspects, between 18 and mid-40s, were detained under suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.
Condolences Offered to Victims
On Friday, families of the deceased men expressed their grief to their family members, praising them as heroes who died saving others.
Mr Daulby, 53 and Mr Cravitz, 66 died during the incident when the attacker used a vehicle against bystanders prior to stabbing people that morning.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed one victim was hit by officers' bullets as they shot the attacker soon after the alarm was raised.
Relatives Comments
The relatives of one victim said he "died in the brave attempt to protect people" and his final act "was one of profound courage and he will always be honored".
The second victim, a local resident, was working as a security guard at the synagogue.
In tribute, his loved ones said: "He was so compassionate, considerate and always wanted to chat and get to know people.
"He remained devoted to his spouse, family and loved his food. He will be sorely missed by his partner, family, friends and community."
Investigation Initiated into Officer Response
An independent police watchdog said it would investigate the employment of deadly weapons by armed police dealing with the incident, which happened on the Jewish Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Armed police inadvertently killed one victim, while worshipper Yoni Finlay was also injured by gunfire by officers leaving him serious injuries.
The investigation will focus on the "events surrounding the fatal police shooting of Jihad Al-Shamie", as well as "if police may have contributed to or been involved in the death of the man later found to have suffered the lethal bullet injury".
Assault Particulars Disclosed
Counter terror police also released more details about the sequence of events in the period leading to Thursday's attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue.
Through an announcement released to the press on Friday, Mr Taylor stated: "According to reports from witness accounts that a individual was seen acting suspiciously outside the synagogue prior to he was approached by security and walked away".
During that moment, the situation had not been communicated to authorities. A short time after, "the individual came back in a car and initiated his horrific attack," Mr Taylor continued.
Police are seeking legal orders to extend the custody of all individuals currently detained, he additionally stated. Earlier, local law enforcement confirmed additional persons - two men in their thirties and a woman in her sixties - had been taken into custody under suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.
Firsthand Reports
The religious leader was conducting services when his synagogue was assaulted and recounted seeing "malice and hostility" as a individual began "body-charging the doors, throwing large containers, doing whatever he could to gain entry".
Praising the rapid response of those at the synagogue, he told media outlets: "I saw true bravery, it must be noted, and individuals who ran to help others rather than running away. It was astonishing."
The synagogue chairman, the temple's head official recounted to journalists, he heard the attacker yelling "this is their punishment for harming innocent youth", prior to "banging his knife into the windows, attempting to break in".
