A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a wealth of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged during the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. However, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
